Active Transportation Group in Carlton County

January 28, 2026
In 2026, Carlton County SHIP identified a need for a countywide Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Plan to support safe, active transportation across the community.
To address this need, Carlton County SHIP convened an Active Transportation Group made up of partners from Carlton County Transportation, Carlton County Public Health, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa – Human Services & Community Development, Essentia Health, the City of Moose Lake, and the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission.
Together, this group will work to develop a Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Plan that outlines best practices, infrastructure improvements, and education and outreach strategies to meet community needs. The group recently applied for a MnDOT Planning Assistance Grant, which closed on January 16. If awarded, the grant will support the development of the plan and help align local efforts with proven best practices.
