Cook County continues to show what is possible when a community is connected and committed to taking care of its own. In moments that require collective action, local partners don’t hesitate—they step forward together.

Recent stories out of Cook County highlight how strongly the community shows up for one another. Local businesses, organizations, and residents rallied together—donating resources, coordinating support, and stepping in wherever needed—to help ensure families could continue accessing food when SNAP funding was uncertain during the federal shutdown. Their actions demonstrate a community that moves quickly, cares deeply, and works collectively to support its neighbors.

SHIP is proud to partner with the Food Access Council whose members and partners have played a key role in bringing people together and inspiring this level of community action. The council creates a space where partners can connect, share solutions, and act swiftly in moments that matter. We commend all the leaders and community members who stepped up to care for their neighbors and strengthen a resilient, community-driven food system not just in food emergencies but for generations to come.
