Digital Wellbeing in Koochiching County
May 14, 2025
In today's digital world, the wellbeing of young people is deeply connected to their online interactions. Recognizing the importance of fostering balanced, intentional, and responsible technology use, Linnea Imhof has earned her Digital Wellbeing Trainer Certification through LiveMore ScreenLess.
LiveMore ScreenLess, a Minnesota-based nonprofit dedicated to digital wellbeing, launched this certification to equip educators and community leaders with the tools to support young people in navigating their digital lives. The program, cofounded by Katherine Myers in 2019 , gained momentum with the passage of a Digital Wellbeing bill in 2021, providing essential funding to train leaders like Imhof.
As a newly certified Digital Wellbeing Trainer , Imhof is committed to equipping students, educators, and parents in Koochiching County with research-based strategies to develop healthy digital habits. As part of her practicum, she facilitated 10 hours of digital wellbeing discussions and workshops on the social, emotional, mental, cognitive, and physical aspects of digital wellbeing.
“Students confirmed that there is a deep desire among youth to have more meaningful conversations around their digital device usage. Many of them expressed a willingness to be more intentional with their screen time…What surprised me, however, was the depth of their eagerness and the level of self-awareness they exhibited.”
Rather than discouraging technology use, Imhof emphasizes that digital wellbeing is about equipping students to make intentional choices about their tech use. Through her certification, she now has the resources and expertise to lead meaningful discussions in classrooms and beyond.
With Imhof’s leadership, Koochiching County is taking a proactive step in fostering a culture of digital wellbeing , ensuring that students, educators, and families have the support they need to create a healthier relationship with technology.
